Growing Tomorrow’s Anglers Today

Willamette Falls Chapter’s annual kids picnic combines education, fun, and fishing.

CCA Oregon’s Willamette Falls Chapter continued providing fun, educational activities for kids at the 5^th Annual Summer Fun for the Fish Picnic held in late July at Milo McIver State Park, located on the Clackamas River.  

The intent is to ensure those kids who attended stay interested in fishing. And from the looks of it, the event was a success.   

Julie Monroe-Falk, the primary organizer of the picnic, loves hosting the event.  

“It’s a fun opportunity for the kids to spend a day outside and learn more about various aspects of fishing. It is also not a fundraising event, so there is no pressure on anyone to spend money or feel the need to donate,” Monroe-Falk says. “Every kid who has ever attended has taken home at least one rod and reel combo, and they are always excited and appreciative.”

Monroe-Falk acknowledges that the event is helped greatly by our generous donors.  

“The kids really appreciate the gift cards, rods and reels provided by Fisherman’s Marine and Outdoors.”

Kids and adults explored a fish hatchery, learned fly fishing tips from Jennifer LaFollette of Royal Treatment Fly Fishing, and enjoyed games like tug-of-war, sack races, casting challenges, and face painting. Kids also decorated American flag T-shirts to take home.

A big thank-you goes to Fisherman’s Marine & Outdoor, Joe Daddy’s Burgers, CCA Oregon Life Member Cliff De Blois, who donated several rod and reel combos for the event, and all of the volunteers and donors who helped make the day such a success. Monroe-Falk also thanked Carver Hanger, Disc Junction, Polly Holbrook, Eagle Creek Saloon, ODFW Angler Education Division, Polly Holbrook, Redland Cafe, Rods and Reels in Need, Royal Treatment Fly Fishing, and Stryker Rods.

Monroe-Falk hopes to see you and your family next year for a fun day filled with games, prizes, competitions, and the chance to learn more about fishing opportunities throughout the state.
